Author Interview – Lela Grayce

What is your name?
Lela Grayce

Where are you from?
Originally I am from a little mining town in Nevada called Elko. I have lived a few different places since then including Hawaii. Currently, I live in a small college town in Wyoming called Laramie and I adore this small town.

Tell me about yourself? (family life, education, growing up)
I’ve been married to my best friend Fred for almost 7 years now, we have a 7 year old little girl named Khloe. I have an associates degree in a applied sciences in medical assisting but have never worked as a medical assistant because in the area I live there isn’t a whole lot of opportunities for medical assistants. So instead I work for a non-profit organization that assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and I love it! I am the middle child. I have an older brother Thomas, and a younger brother Ethan. My Mom and Dad celebrated their 35th year of marriage in May!

What is your latest release or when is your book going to be released?
My first book Areion is hopefully going to be released by the end of this year. (knock on wood)

When and why did you start writing?
I was in my early to mid twenties when I decided to write down my imaginings. I’m a very vivid dreamer so I would dream about people in a specific situation and then in waking I would build, in my imagination, a backstory for them on how that got to this situation with these people. It’s fun coming up with the back stuff.

What inspired you to write your first book?
I actually dreamt about my first book, more specifically a character from my book. He was talking to two twin girls who were identical but had drastically different hair and eye color. The conversation didn’t make much sense to me at the time. He was telling the girls that they were important to saving the world that they were born to and that they must go back to set things right. He also said that he would always be with them protecting, watching, and lending them his strength and knowledge. That was it so I spent the next few weeks coming with with a backstory for the girls and of course him.

Is there anything in your writing that is based on your life, people you know or events based on real life?
Probably the thing that is based on my real life is my love for the moon. I’ve always been fascinated by it and the stories about the man in the moon, however, I see a lady in the moon. Some circumstances and events will reflect my life experiences being homeschooled therefore socially awkward, being the new girl in public high school, and being a young teenaged single mother.

Have you ever traveled for your writing process for research?
I have not but would love to.

Would you like to tell us who edits and designs your books and covers?
I haven’t gotten to the editing stage yet but will probably hook up with my friend Joy Olivier for the editing. Deranged Doctor Designs designed my book Areion and I plan to work with them going forward but I have had some work done by Valerie Roeseler of Eden Elements and she is fantastic! She is easy to work with and she puts up with my imaginings and mind changes.

Is there a message in your book or key things that stand out?
There are a few messages that I wish to convey in my series as a whole but the main message I would like people to see is that there will always be dark times in our lives. Sometimes it will feel like that darkness is choking everything good in life and it will feel like there is no end in sight. It is in those dark times that we are able to find our spark, to rekindle the fire within. There is a balance and understanding that balance is how we understand and overcome the trials that life tends to throw our way.

Is there an author that helped influence your writing? Do you have a favorite independent author that you love?
There are a few who have helped influence my writing, I count them as my closest friends and confidants. I also have a ton of favorite Indie authors, Leia Stone, Jaymin Eve, Steven Smithen, Aaron L Speer, Raye Wagner, B. Kirsten McMichael, John Conroe, Frost Kay…. and the list goes on and on.

In the beginning of your work did you have a good support system in your writing? People that stood behind you and encouraged you.
Yes in a way. My family has always been supportive of anything that I do or set my mind to do. Outside of that my closest friends have been amazing in their encouragement and understanding.

Would you consider writing to be a career or a hobby?
At the moment and for the foreseeable future I see it as a hobby but if there is ever a time that I could make it into a career I would gladly do so.

Is there anything you would change with your writing?
Yes! In my mind, I tend to get into my character’s head and am really great at writing from that first person type of view. Any other way is hard for me to do, so I write my first draft in the first person than in the editing and rewriting phases I go back through and change it.

What is the easiest part of the writing process for you?
Imagining and visualizing. I have a very vivid imagination so that has always been the easiest part.

Do you have a favorite character in your book?
I have a couple favorite characters in my book. One is a character I originally created to kill but has since taken on more of a role than I had originally thought and one that is a secondary character but one of the keys to pretty much everything.

Do you have a character you could see yourself dating?
Um, yes I could see myself dating a couple of my characters. Is that weird?

Some say they learn things when they write. Is there anything you learned from your last book writing it?
I’m learning a ton! About my writing process, how somethings are easier for me than others and also the whole publishing as an indie author process as well. It isn’t easy that for sure.

Do you have advice for any new writers who are considering self-publishing?
One of my fears was that what I have in my head has already been said, and for a lot of newbie authors like me that is a real intimidating fear, but a wonderful author lady told me “Of course it’s already been said but YOU haven’t said it yet.” I’ll never forget that. We are the product of our experiences be it through life, specific circumstances, or situations everyone is different and unique in their thought processes and their reactions. So saying the same thing but having a different meaning for me or you is why it’s different.

Is there anything you would like to tell your readers?
You all are amazingly awesome! Not only for putting up with my slow writing but for my crazy moon and batman obsession. You all are rockstars.

Are you reading anything now?
Slowly making my way through Amy Bartol’s newest release The Secondborn.

Do you remember the first book you ever read?
Oh man, that was many many years ago. I can’t remember the first book I ever read but I remember reading the Nancy Drew Mysteries Series so that counts as my first series right?

Do you have any hobbies you enjoy?
My Mom taught me at a very young age to crochet and I have stuck with it and continue to crochet different things. I’ve gotten pretty good at it, or so I’m told.

Do you have any films or TV shows you enjoy?
Huge fan of Supernatural! I also really enjoy Arrow.

The Empty Space

Empty space inside her heart
Empty since she was little.
Loneliness was what she said.
Time past, she found someone to fill in the empty space.
She found life, but life wasn’t enough.
She longed for something deep inside her soul.
Empty space filled in a moment.
The love she found had vanished.
The empty space void once more.

Felt so many emotions and feelings

As I sit here reading Memories of You, I feel so many emotions as the words tumbled from the pages into my heart that takes my breath away. Words of love, passion, desires, trust, hurt, despair, longing and heartbreak. Never have I felt so many emotions at once. Memories of what once was or could have been. Memories of You is beautifully written book of feelings and thoughts that we experience or feel at one time in life. I would definitely recommend this book!!

Beautifully written collection. Captures so many feelings, page after page. Having this collection of poems will take you right back to “The Foreigner”. AC Jade did a great job!

Author Spotlight – Iris Sweetwater

Iris Sweetwater grew up in the south in a large family. She began writing when she was only four years old, finding a special love for poetry and telling crazy stories. As an adult, she spent a lot of time in the marketing world before finding her niche in ghostwriting and editing. Finally, she got to a point where she felt it was time to get her own work out there, so she began to self-publish. She hopes to make it a career one day to support her wonderful family on. She loves books, movies, dance workouts, chocolate, and little adventures.

Sounds like an amazing person am I right? It’s amazing how many authors start out young with the love of poetry. Then as they get older they graduate to eventually finding where their passions lie.

Great Read

Isaiah, is now the new alpha of his pack after the recent loss of his father. He is faced with a lot of responsibility for the pack. On his very first night, he is faced with finding a witch attacked on their land. Little does he know that this witch isn’t what she seems. Will he be able to keep the peace or will they go to war? I was drawn in immediately and didn’t want to put the book down! I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for the second book!

Great read involving witches and werewolves

Mystery, intrigue, mixed emotions, Duty, rules. This story has it all. It pulls at your heartstrings and makes you yell at what’s going on all at the same time. I really enjoyed reading this book and was pleasantly surprised at times. There are moments that keep you guessing and some you’ll be like, ha I knew that was going to happen.

Brothers of Fang: Blood Betrayal #2

Isaiah’s failure as the new alpha has now gone even farther than he imagined as he faces family betrayal he never expected and a slew of hybrid that must decide whether or not to join the pack. Not surprisingly, he again is finding a great ally in the young and powerful Annalise, the witch that is meant to rule the entire Olympia coven. Though, as they get closer, regardless of the chasteness of their relationship, the distance between Isaiah and his mate will grow.

More Please!!!

Isaiah and Annalise’s saga continues as the betrayal is uncovered in the second installment of this series. As they are trying to recover from their findings and put some distance between them, everything seems to keep pulling them towards each other. This one is even better than the first. Their inner turmoil and fight is just as heavy and strong as the betrayal and I just can’t wait for the next book. Hard decisions are made and feelings are blooming in every page you turn. Iris Sweetwater is quickly turning into one of my go to authors and, with this series, PNR is turning into one of my favorite genres.

Secrets and Self Discovery

This story picks up where Brothers of Fang: The New Alpha left off. I love the chemistry between Isaiah and Annalise. He has his mate, Tamara which is so full of jealousy and she makes it obvious. I, personally, dislike her character as she has feelings for another and doesn’t deserve to be Isaiah’s mate. This book is full of secrets, betrayal, self discovery. Love this book and looking forward to learn the secret.
